Ireland Public Sector Pension Calculator

About this calculator

Free tools for civil and public servants in the Single Public Service Pension Scheme: a Defined Benefit pension and lump sum projection, and a real AVC tax-relief headroom calculator that accounts for your mandatory contribution. Standard Accrual and Fast Accrual (Uniformed — Gardaí, Prison Officers, Defence Forces, firefighters) member categories are both covered.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser using the Scheme's own published accrual rates from Circular 11/2014 and the current Contributory State Pension rate — nothing you enter is sent to a server. The pension projection mirrors the official Single Scheme Estimator Tool's own methodology: starting from your Annual Benefit Statement referable amounts (or zero, from a standing start), it projects forward to your Normal Retirement Age using the Estimator Tool's own stated assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a private-sector pension calculator?

No. The Single Scheme is Defined Benefit — your pension is a formula based on your service and pay, guaranteed by the State, with no investment pot. Private-sector pensions (including Ireland's My Future Fund auto-enrolment scheme) are Defined Contribution — a pot that grows from contributions and investment returns. If you're in the private sector, use the Irish Tax Calculator's My Future Fund and ARF Drawdown calculators instead.

How accurate is this projection?

This is a broad estimate, not a guarantee — the same disclaimer the official Single Scheme Estimator Tool carries. It uses the Scheme's own published accrual rates (Circular 11/2014) and the official Estimator Tool's own stated assumptions (3% pay growth, 1% career progression, CPI-uprating). Your actual benefits depend on your real salary history, service record, and Scheme rules in force at retirement — for anything official, use your Annual Benefit Statement or contact your Pensions Officer.

Why does my AVC headroom look lower than a generic AVC calculator shows?

Revenue's age-related relief limit (15% under 30, rising to 40% at 60+, on earnings up to €115,000) applies to your mandatory Single Scheme contribution and your AVCs combined — not to AVCs alone. A calculator that ignores your mandatory contribution overstates your remaining AVC headroom.

Not a public servant?

The Irish Tax Calculator covers Income Tax, USC, PRSI, My Future Fund auto-enrolment, and ARF Drawdown for the private sector.

Figures are broad estimates for informational purposes only, based on the Single Scheme's own published assumptions — not a guarantee of benefits, and not a substitute for your Annual Benefit Statement or official Pensions Officer advice.
