Works backwards from a target net salary to the gross salary that actually delivers it after Income Tax, USC, and PRSI — useful when negotiating an offer against a specific take-home figure.

How it's calculated

Because combined Income Tax, USC, and PRSI aren't a flat percentage — they're banded, with credits and thresholds — there's no simple formula to invert directly, so the calculator searches for the gross salary whose net take-home matches your target, converging to within a few cent.

Frequently asked

Why is the required gross salary so much higher than my target?

Once you're above the standard rate band, roughly every second euro of additional gross salary is lost to combined Income Tax, USC, and PRSI, so a round net target like €4,000/month usually needs a noticeably larger gross figure than a simple percentage estimate suggests.

Does this work for negotiating a contractor day rate too?

This mode targets employee (PAYE) take-home specifically; contractors should use the Contractor mode, which works from a day rate and factors in self-employed PRSI (Class S) rather than employee PRSI.
